    A Promising Start

Apologies to all for a lack of a game thread and recap. I was not near a computer last night and Jeremy was likely spending his evening at the Spearmint Rhino!

I was not able to watch the hoops game last night, but from what I saw on highlights and read from your comments on the last post, I think we can’t help but be impressed with what we saw. It’s been rare the past few years when Vaz has an off night shooting, we can still win by 40. I can’t remember being able to dominate any team like that recently. Usually we were beating the creampuffs by 10-15.

The freshmen bigs both nearly had double-doubles. From what I saw, they seemed to be pretty strong around the basket and that allowed Milbourne to be free to do what he does best.

I noticed Mosley hitting some nice mid-range jumpers, some coming off screens. That would be such a weapon to have. A guy who can hit jumpers and also finish on ally-oops. Hard to defend a guy like that.

I know it was a game against a weak team that isn’t supposed to sniff the top half of their conference, but it seemed like a different team out there. A more confident team. A more complete team.

It’s a shame the footballers can’t be the same!

Nice pick up. He's really excited too based on the txt that he sent to me while I was out of the office.

"Its official ya !!!!" - last twitter entry 5 minutes ago. Doesn't say which school though.

If you're in the NY/NJ area you will probably be able to watch Ashton Pankey commit to UMD live on TV. If you're not, it will probably be on SNY.TV around 3pm today. But by then it should be pretty anti-climatic.

      Ashton sez:
I wanna be a pro .. & the university I pick is because of that ; not a lot of distractions but just enough 2 have fun .. ima work my hardest

      Has he announced? Any word?

Their recruiting class keeps getting better and better, right up there with Ohio State and UNC. Added Tarik Black today.
    • nmprisons
At this point, I think a strong argument can be made that there is better than Ohio State and, if you care about numbers and stars, better than North Carolina, too. Heck, it is a lot better than Kentucky's at this point, which must drive Kentucky fans nuts.

    • DiamondbackRuss
I don't have any definitive info, but I have a hunch we could get some clarification on Dino's status today or tomorrow.

I feel like T Harris is a Terp...he's come to College Park so many times...I really feel like there is a good chance he comes here...and if he does, he will get to play against Barnes (but that will also be true if he went to G Tech). Hell, he will have opportunities to beat Barnes and the Heels (since the Terps do have their number).

Meanwhile, I gotta figure out how to watch the Tuesday game...damn it!
    • DiamondbackRuss
Remember that CBE O'Reilly Auto Parts event the Terps were in a couple of seasons ago? Well, that event now officially sucks! (bare with me cause I know this is WAY OT)

Texas, Pittsburgh, Wichita State and Iowa are in the event this year and all hosted Regional Round games before automatically advancing to the Championship Rounds at Sprint Center in Kansas City.

Well, Iowa appears to have taken the automatic advance a little to seriously because they crapped the bed today and lost to the University of Texas-San Antonio in their regional round game. The loss also snapped Iowa's 46-game winning streak in home openers. Yet, it is Iowa not the University of Texas-San Antonio that still has a chance to be the CBE O'Reilly Auto Parts champion.

      What a disgrace.
    • Ricksterps
Yea, Feinstein wrote an article on this last week. I guess they got burned a year or two ago so now you advance no matter what. Maryland is scheduled to play in a couple years and they are already in the semifinals!
    • No other tournament does this. DBR is right. It's disgraceful. If one of the marquee teams gets upset; you take your lumps and move on.
    • DiamondbackRuss
      Thought I'd share http://tinyurl.com/yzsh4eq

Back in mid-July Tobias Harris visited Georgia Tech for several hours and had this to say: "It was a good visit and I like them a whole lot. It is a great school and they have a great campus. I like pretty much everything about Georgia Tech."

His visit to Georgia Tech was very brief because he only had a little bit of time before he had to catch a connecting flight out of Atlanta to an NBA camp.

He’s also interested in Tech because they developed forwards like Chris Bosh, Thaddeus Young and Gani Lawal.

He’s probably just landing in Atlanta now.

      Tick-toc-tick-toc…
    • Jacob
gah! he was only visiting Maryland so much because he was scouting US for when he plays here against us for GaTech! I feel so used!... It seems like his dad is pretty keen on the Terps. I hope he makes a choice that is good for him and his family.
    • Ricksterps
That's why it's so hard to tell where these kids will end up. They ALWAYS say the visit was great. Would love to land this kid but I'm not holding my breath.

      Wheels..Ricks... et al;
I just don't see Debbie eating the money to get rid of Ralph and Franklin and hiring a big dollar name. Thats a lot of money +$5mio for a state school with a tight budget.
We have some big, loyal donors at Maryland of which I am proud to be one of. But our donor base is not large compared to most football schools and past the top 50 or so, not that deep pocketed. Plus we have a lot of ones like myself that split funds between Football and Basketball with bball getting the larger share.
But its nothing like, Florida or Alabama or Tennessee, where if they were faced with this problem they would call upon their over 50,000 boosters and say: Ok the Top 100 send us $25K, the next 100 send us $5K and the next 2,000 send us $1K. BAM , there's your $5mio, and its done in a week.
    • Ricksterps
Thanks for the insight Harry, always good to get a reading of the booster tea leaves.

      http://www.coacheshotseat.com/ACCCoachesSalariesContracts.htm

This is a list of ACC coaches salaries. We are right in the middle in compensation. I don't know if there are easily attainable incentives that are not included in these figures.
    • Wheels
Funny...right in the middle on talent, wins, and expenses...and coach pay. I think that's why I am so frustrated...not that we are in the middle. I'd be okay with 4-4 conference records as a bottom. It's that we are so under performing to the mean. I have no illusions about MD...middle of the pack ACC is about what I think they are.

Harry...thanks for the insights. I don't know many boosters, I only rub elbows with them on The Soup! Tell you what, if I ever win the lottery or become T. Boone Pickens...watch out ACC!
    • Jin soo probably out for a week or so.
    • nmprisons
Gotcha so, we have two games without him (Tues. and Fri.)? Scary when we are so thin up front that we are nervous about this.
    • Markmax33
Jin Soo is a guard or 3 at the best. We'll be more than fine without him!

Any update on Jin Soo? He went down during the game right?

Ashton Pankey is now home from his visit to the Univ. of Houston. Says he'll be committing tomorrow on SNY & signing Tuesday .
    • eddienj
Is he announcing at school? I just realized I have a meeting at a place less than a mile from St Anthony's on Tuesday. Is someone like me just allowed to walk-in and watch?
    • DiamondbackRuss
Ashton Pankey is announcing on SNY.tv. Stay tuned tomorrow afternoon on SNY.tv. I believe Pankey is expected at the SNY studios 1:30pm and then he'll be on soon afterwards. The signing will be at his school on Tuesday at an event where he and other St. Anthony recruits will be signing also.
    • nmprisons
Any inside scoop here? Will qualifying academically be a problem here?
    • DiamondbackRuss
My understanding is that is not an issue. In fact, according to Kimani Young, Pankey's New Heights AAU coach, Ashton is an honor roll student at St. Anthony.

    • nmprisons
Great. Now let's just hope he chooses us!
    • cjazh
Why do we want Pankey? I might be wrong but he seems like a lower level recruit. Aren't there guys on our radar that are more highly touted?
    • DiamondbackRuss
We want Pankey because he adds depth to our thin front court and he's a very good rebounder with lots of upside on the offensive side of the ball. He's played very well in AAU play on his New Heights team, although he came on late in the summer. Kind of how Jordan Williams came on late last summer. When Gary found him he was a 3-star recruit that wasn't highly ranked. By the time his senior HS season was over he was moving up in rankings and became a 4-star recruit.
    • I thought hes still a senior in HS?
    • DiamondbackRuss
Yes, Ashton Pankey is still a senior in HS. So if he comes to UMD next year he'll add depth to our front court.
    • nmprisons
My sense is that the staff believes he is flying under the radar a bit. He has a good body, a serious motor, and is still developing. Sometimes you can pick up a kid in the Fall without the crowds, where, by the spring, there were be real competition. The terps seem to be going after him harder than they did his teamate Devon Collier, who is a top 125 type kid and harder than Graham, who is, apparently, a top 100 type kid. They have seen him play (I haven't) and say he is good enough to play at Maryland.
    • cjazh
      Makes sense. Thanks.

If Tobias comes to MD, we would have a powerhouse recruiting class. Everyone has been commenting about Ross, but Parker is more highly rated. Can anyone comment on Parker's game?
    • NYMets9631
tobias update from zags...looks good but we shall see this week! Nothing but praise for Gary, I think we should all be so thankful we have him.

No doubt. The one time I had the good fortune to meet Gary, I shook his hand and told him how much I appreciate what he's done for the program and our university. He was really cool to talk to, asked me if I was alum. Got my pic taken with him but the jack ass that took it evidently had the shakes cause it was one red, white and brown blur lol
    • talaya7
Congrats to the Terps for winning one big. Reviewing the box, I've got 3 points to make:

      1. the Terps must have played solid D since Charleston only shot 30% from the field.

      2. That said, the Terps only got 15 more shots than Charleston, even though they forced 24 TOs. The problem? The Rebound stat was again tied. The Terps MUST do a better job cleaning the boards!

      3. I also note that Padgett took 10 shots and Williams took 9. The only ones that took more shots was GV. My point is that GW must have a lot of confidence in these freshman. The last time a Frosh had the green light that often in the first game was maybe Joe Smith.
    • looper
Well, if we can get Padgett and Williams to rebound, the green light on offense could be a year long trend. It's easy to cut them loose in a game like this. A little tougher as the season progresses. I'm sure Gary wants to see what they got in game situations. No time like the present for that.
    • Ricksterps
Awesome job on those numbers Wheels. I like Wise but he has been a huge fence straddler lately. I like that he gives both sides but come on man, take a side and make a good case.

What would a candidate look for in taking a head coaching job? For starters, you look at the conference. Is the conference good enough that I can get exposure and have access to up level bowls? That is a big yes there.

Are there any roadblock teams? Will you be playing second fiddle to FLA, Alabama, Ohio State, USC etc.? No, the closest thing we have had to that is Tech. While they are a good team each year they don't hold the sort of advantage that would give you pause as a coach.

Do you have the facilities and money to be successful? We have the facilities, some of the best in the conference. The money is sketchy. I always hear that Ralph wasn't given the kind of money he needed to make the next step. Wheel's numbers reinforce that but as he said they may not tell the whole story.

I think that is the biggest factor. Are you going to get the support/money you need to be successful? Yow does a good job keeping expenses down but does she do it at the expense of our athletic success?

At the end of the day I think Yow will not want to eat 5 mil to replace Fridge/Franklin. I think they will both be back next season in a make or break year. If that isn't the case it will be very interesting to see who in interested in the job.

Thanks again Wheels, you should be writing for the Post with all those numbers.
    • Wheels
Luckily for everyone but my wife and kids, I think this stuff is fun! But here's something for everyone else to consider. Using the USA Today draft finder, can we answer the questions: Did Ralph win with Ron's talent, and was that talent better than what Ralph's recruited?

Vanderlinden only coached 4 years, so the 7 players drafted during his tenure were recruited by Duffner (you could make the case that Kris Jenkins, a Michigan transfer, was "recruited" by Ron...but then you have to count Madieu Williams as a Ralph recruit after he transfered from Towson...so let's keep it constant for argument's sake). To be fair, I am discounting those drafted players from my little analysis.

The next four NFL drafts (2002-2005) corresponded with Ralph's first 4 years at MD, where he "won" with Ron's talent. These were the 4 recuiting classes that Vandy brought it that he played with to a 15-29 record. Over that span, 11 MD players were drafted, of which 1 was a first rounder and 3 were second rounders.

Finally, let's look at the last four drafts (2006-2009), which represent Ralph's first full recruiting cycle. 11 MD players were drafted, of which 2 were first rounders and 2 were second rounders.

So, did Ralph "win" with Ron's talent? I'd say technically, well yes...his players were recruited by Vanderlinden. But was that talent better than he's had since? It looks the same to me in terms of depth and same in terms of quality.

I think that the statement that Ralph can't recruit is not accurate compared to his predecessor. And it looks like he's won less with his talent even though it was of equal quality. To me it suggests that the change in tenure between Vanderlinden and Ralph changed the culture of the program. It seems that now the culture of the program isn't living up to its past.

Does this put to rest the "Ralph won with Ron's talent" point? Well, maybe not. But I find it too convenient of an argument to make given the data above. Ron didn't have the talent that Ralph inherited, that's true by the number of players drafted out of Duffner's classes. Ron left Ralph with a fuller cupboard, that Ralph won with and keeps at the same level he inherited. Yet he isn't winning with his own talent, at least not at the level he won with using someone else's talent that was equal.
    • Jacob
You are doing a great job investigating and putting some hard numbers to these issue Wheels. I'd like to put another opinion that you might have glossed over to the forefront. When you say that the talent recruited by Vanderlinden and Ralph are/were the same in terms of depth and quality, Terp fans wholeheartedly agree - and this might be where we find the fault in Ralph's recruiting.
When a coach comes in from successful stints at coaching jobs at Universities and the NFL to a bunch of successful seasons right off the bat, one would expect to see a rise in the depth and quality that that coach can lure to play for him. Further, when Ralph can 'only' get the same level of recruits as Vanderlinden did at the end of Vanderlinden's stint at UMD while Ralph was winning, I imagine that fans would worry that Ralph's recruiting can only go down from here since he doesn't have much to show recently.
Could it be that Ralph is too emotionally involved with the guys that he has recruited? It seems like he did well enough with guys he barely knew - did plenty well in the NFL with guys he didn't know. His excuse for fans to care about this season when it turned ugly was that this team was particularly deserving of credit for working hard and being good guys.

Maybe he's been the same coach all these years, but the talent across the ACC has risen? Maybe the recruiting isn't Ralph's fault at all - but rather the assistant coaches'? Who knows. I'm with you on this psychiatrist idea.
    • Ricksterps
Ralph can't recruit is of course what people point to. When is the last time a college coach was fired and they didn't point to that? Everyone thinks the college football sun rises and sets on recruiting alone. We know better...

Last year they had enough talent to have a really good year. BCS bowl type year. We just didn't execute well. The offense has become almost boring.

As far as what caliber of coach we can attract, let's look at history.

      Ross
      Krivak
      Duffner
      Vanderlinden
      Fridge

None of those guys were considered hot commodities. None of them were head coaches in a BCS conference. Unless you want to go back to ancient history, we have never hired a head coach from a good football team.

Has that changed? I don't know. The only thing I do know is in this day and age the only way to get a Mike Leach is to show him the money. Is there any chance that Debbie is going to eat 5 mil AND pay someone that kinda' money?
    • Wheels
Ross is the only coach among that list who won a NCAA championship at GT and coached in a Super Bowl. Duffner, if you recall, was the "it" 1-AA coach coming out of Holy Cross. He was the Jim Tressel of his day, leading Holy Cross to some ridiculous records. I was at MD during the Duffner years, and there was a lot of excitement with his hire. Turned out to be a dud.

I'm with you, though. Either you try to get someone really up and coming, a Tressel, Kelley, or Stoops type...which are all gambles that paid off, or you go after a Leach, Sumlin, or Jim Harbaugh. But that will cost a lot, just to get out of Ralph and Franklin's contracts alone never mind paying those guy $2M a year. Ralph makes good coin, top half of the ACC coin; and MD pays assistants pretty well. This is maybe something Harry could elucidate for us on Yow and the purse strings. MD has some big money donors that are partial to football. I wonder what they'd be willing to pay. Harry has previously indicated that many boosters wouldn't at this point appear willing to chip in if the cup was passed around.

Who knows...maybe Gary will ask Brian Billick to come out and coach. He's made his coin already!
    • Ricksterps
Unless I am mistaken, Ross came to us from the NFL assistant ranks. He went on to coach GT and the Chargers.

He is maybe an example of us not being a destination coaching job. He did leave us to go to GT where he of course won a NC...sigh.
    • turtlepin67
Supposedly, the reason that Ross left was because the administration failed to live up to a promise to improve facilities.
    • Harry
Wheels - I was in the presidents box for a while watching the game and it was eerily quiet about the subject of coaching. Almost like the elephant in the room no one talks about. I don't think they went to Jamar sooner because the coaches and team are set up for more of a Pro style passing offense. They should study up on how VA Tch runs its offense with a talented runner passer on board and Ralph should remember the Joe Hamilton years at Ga. Tch.

Jacob I agree that we appear to be snakebitten this year. Every little thing that could go wrong seems to have. I hated getting punked by those fans as well, although I am looking forward to the BBall team to kick their ass twice this year.

Lastly Jeremy and Gregg, you owe no one an apology. You guys do a great job on this site spending your own time and resources for free for our enjoyment. Thanks again for the forum!
    • I asked the smart ass VT fans in our section how much fun they had at their basketball and football national championship parades. That was sufficient in shutting them up.

Here you go wheels...exactly what we have been talking about.
    • Wheels
I read this and walked away saying, "Uhm, what's his point?" He starts by saying that things are bad, really bad, and something should be done. Then he says, okay smarty pants MD fans. You think there's someone out there who'd want to come to CP and deal with this shit? Good luck. MD is a back woods outpost. You're lucky that Ralph loves his school, because not even a good MAC coach would want to give up his kingdom for your shit program. He then concludes by saying that MD needs to recruit better.

My problem with Wise's analysis, aside from his condescending fence sitting, is that he paints a half full picture. I used the following site to gather data on players drafted in the NFL by college played for (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/draft-history-graphic.htm). This doesn't count free agent signings, just drafted players. I limited my search from 2001 to 2009.

      Duke 1
      WFU 14
      BC 18
      GT 19
      Maryland 24
      CU 24
      UNC 25
      NCST 25
      UVA 28
      VT 42
      FSU 48
      Miami 58

Statistically, only 3 schools stand apart from the rest of the conference: Miami, FSU, and VT.

So, is talent really the question here? What about wins from 2001-2009:

      Duke 17
      UNC 44
      NCST 55
      WFU 56
      UVA 59
      Maryland 66
      CU 68
      FSU 69
      GT 71
      BC 79
      Miami 79
      VT 83

What about football expenses? I had to use 2 different sites because MD hasn’t reported to the Equity in Athletics site (http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/) since 2005, so I used the following site for all PUBLIC universities for football expenses from last year (http://www2.indystar.com/NCAA_financial_reports/expense_stat/show?school_id=56). For the PRIVATE universities, I only had the Equity in Athletics site, which is more detailed. So I’ve got a bit of apples and oranges here on expenses. I don’t know why MD hasn’t reported their data, especially since it’s part of a federal act. At any rate, here are the football expenses per team in millions:

      NCST 6.85
      Maryland 9.3
      UNC 10
      CU 10.9
      FSU 11.7
      GT 12.8
      WFU 13*
      Duke 14*
      VT 14
      UVA 16
      BC 18.5*
      Miami 20*

Has Ralph had less talent? Only compared to VT, Miami, and FSU. He’s pretty much in the middle on wins, although there are some breaks in the data here that show some clustering of wins. BC, Miami, and VT are in one cluster. MD, CU, FSU, and GT are in another cluster. NCST, UVA, and Wake in another cluster, and UNC and Duke are in their own. Mind you, too, that BC, VT, and Miami’s win totals include 4 or 5 years of Big East participation, which I think shows how fluff the Big East is.

When you turn to football expenses, it’s tougher to draw conclusions here because the data come from different sets. The federal data were much higher than the Indy Star data because the fed data had supplemental (e.g., soft or private donor) money. The Indy Star data was hard money in the form of university budget reporting. When you include soft money into the hard, the figures almost double. So I could assume MD spends about twice as much when you include soft money, but I couldn’t find the evidence. So take this for what it is on the expense side. On the hard money, MD is similar to UNC and CU. VT and UVA are the big hard money spenders.

So what to make of all of this? Well, I think Wise has greatly over-simplified things; and I think he did it to push his take. He likes Ralph, which is fine. So do I. But he makes it out like MD is a terrible program, which I don’t think it is. MD is a pretty average ACC school in terms of football. He, as well as Ralph, say it’s about talent. Well, other ACC schools have won more with less talent (GT). Wise also makes it seem like MD is only public university struggling with finances right now. Yeah, other states don’t have it bad, too?!
    • Wheels
Oh...and for what it's worth, here are West Virginia's totals on players drafted since 2001, wins since 2001, and last year's hard money expenses:

      13 77 11.3
    • Wheels
Forgot to mention that win totals include this year to date.
    • eddienj
Man, that's kind of a reality check for me. I had always thought Maryland football would be a very enticing job for any coach.
    • eddienj
I guess an upset wasn't in the making. Despite the score, I think the boys showed some fight. That was good to see. I like our new QB. Gives us something for next season.

Fairfield coming up Tuesday. Jimmy Patsos needs to call Gary with the scouting report on the MAAC team. Not that we should need it.
    • DiamondbackRuss
Maryland has now lost five straight to Virginia Tech by a combined score of 197-65.
    • Jacob
I saw about 3/4 of the game - and I saw multiple times where the Terps were just milliseconds or inches from doing something really great - and VT always managed to either get the better of us, or the call.

Now i'm not going to say anything rash like we should have won the game, but I just can't seem to shake this feeling that the ball has bounced uncharacteristically bad for us all year.
Right at the end of the 1st half, Robinson threw to the back of the endzone twice, and Smith didn't come down with a pretty well placed ball on the second try.
Also in the first half, we had a HUGE hit on their quarterback who had let go of the ball just in time, and then two defenders dived at the receiver who scampered into the end zone because one defender missed the interception by about 2 inches, and the other miffed the receiver by a handful of jersey.

The refs gave the Hokies another try on a botched onsides kick because the ball was falling out of the tray? Meanwhile the call on the field stood for all of the questionable calls - all of those questionable calls went in favor of the Hokies. I feel for Ralph, I really do. Its hard to teach guys intangibles - like Wuju having such a great nose for the ball. Its hard to see your team do all the big things well and just get anunlucky bounce - week after week.

Its sad that the guys have played so hard that they are now getting hurt left and right. Who would have thought that more than half of the guys entering the season at the top of the depth chart at their respective positions would be nursing season-ending injuries by the end of the season?
What team can win without most of their best players?
Of course one injury makes everyone else play out of position to make up for it, and thats how guys get hurt.

I'm glad that basketball season is starting. I had to deal with VaTech fans laughing at our poor football team as an indication of Maryland sports in general. When I informed them that Maryland has consistently performed better than most of the ACC (including Va Tech) in the Director's Cup, they didn't even know what I was talking about.

Both new bigs looked impressive, Williams was especially aggressive on defense. He challenged a lot of shots.

I'm looking for that first OOC game where both of the new bigs don't play well. Hope it doesn't happen and sounds weird to say that, but I want to see how this team handles that scenario. MD has enough weapons to compensate for an off-night by any individual starter - how do they react when the frontcourt has an off night?

Meanwhile, at Byrd for whoever cares:
Given this was Jamar Robinsons first game starting, he showed some promise. He had some big runs and ended up with something like 125 yards rushing even though VT was in the backfield on every play before you could say "Tobias". He needs some work on his accuracy, hopefully that will come. He was a comparable player to VT's Tyrod T.
More injuries, Tate and Baltz both done for season. Crowd sparse with Terp fans, lots of VT fans. The football season now fades to black....

Harry...and scuttle on potential changes coming during the off season? With Robinson running so well, I wonder why they didn't get him in sooner. A 2-10 season...yeesh. Better add a sports psychologist to staff next year. These kids will need it...and maybe Ralph, too. I don't like what Franklin has done in his 2 years. Clearly not ready for primetime.

Hey guys! Been awhile since I've posted. Good to be back on the Soup! looking forward to this season.

Interesting comments on previous thread concerning our opening win over the cupcake!
Sounds like J-Dub and Padgett might be the real thing at the 4 and 5 spots. I realize it is still very early and that they are obviously freshman, however the way they played in their first game does appear to be something of an omen of things to come. I sure hope so!

If our two young bigs develop quickly, then I'd say from reading all the posts, that we may have a sleeper in the potential of Mosley's development this year. If Sean makes serious strides at growing into the 2 spot, guys we might be looking at something here.

I'm assuming GV and LM will step it up during their senior year and play like prime time ACC players. I hope that is not assuming to much of those guys. Its now or never for the General and Landon to impose their will upon what will be a very young ACC this year.

If EH can lead a solid bench group consisting of himself, AB, CT and Goins (?), it looks like Gary should not experience too significant a drop in production when he goes to the bench. Must have the bench play to make any kind of run at top tier ACC standing.

It appears Dino is the wildcard in all this. When Dino went from the "one frontline player we could count on this year" to our biggest team question mark, I felt a sense of deja vu from the last five years following this program. We've lived with this kind of stuff for too long now. I hope Dino gets his act together and gets cleared to play, we're going to need him. The frosh can't carry this thing alone up front.

I'm getting excited about this year. Trying to keep the excitement in check, but it keeps bubbling up! Go Terps! Let's makes strides back in the direction of where we were 7-8 years ago!

How do you run this site and miss the first game of the basketball season? Harris sat directly in front of me and Williams showed him around after the game at Santa Fe.
    • Gregg
Let's see. I live in Michigan and it was my wife's birthday. My eternal apologies for offending you!
    • Jacob
Wait! Santa Fe is open again? How you gonna show a recruit around a bar that got shut down because of fire hazards and whatnot? I would imagine that Williams would want to show him Bentleys or Turtle - where he would spend most of his time on Rt 1.

Back in July I stopped by Campus and was stunned at the size of Santa Fe. Either my memory was failing me (1st time I'd been on campus in close to 5 years) or it's like they took over a building next door. Judging by comments made by players on the team the girls are better looking at Santa Fe than at Bentleys or Turtle.

      any scuttlebutt about Tobias Harris?

He had a good time, checked out the business school. Parents enjoyed it. He went to see 2012 with Dino and some of the other guys on the team. He fell asleep during the movie. By now he might be back in Long Island, then tomorrow night heads to Atlanta to visit Ga. Tech.
