    Terps-JMU Game Thread

There’s been a lot of negativity in the last week. Sure, the Terps looked horrible at Cal, but that game is history. It’s now a home game against a lesser opponent. We have injuries and inexperience on the O Line, but if this is a Division 1 program, then we should win this game. I’m not expecting an easy blowout, though it would be nice, but a victory that allows the team to build some confidence and momentum should be huge. Thank you Comcast (finally) for allowing us to use ESPN 360 as I’ll be able to watch the game.

Now let’s go out there and get that win.

As bad as our defense is, Buffalo's QB had 400 passing yards against a decent Pitt team today. However, Pitt won 54-27...

Buffalo is up and coming, but jeebus, the Terps stink...

Wow, you talk about curling a kick in...wow.

A win against JMU is much better than a loss. The D has been unbelievably bad, maybe even historically bad. I can't remember a D this bad the first two games of the season.

Well, I don't feel near as bad as I would have with a loss.

ESPN's gamecast sucks...it's so freakin' far behind...and their play-by-play box score (different page/feed) stopped updating at the end of regulation...

I hate Cox for not letting me watching on espn360

I'm sure this is the smart play, to kick the short fg, but I would have kept it on the ground and tried to punch it in. Young kickers make me nervous.
    • Ricksterps
All we need is a flipping fg...come on!
    • Brian
Hard to believe another team might have choked against US...usually we do the choking...of course, there's still time for that...

ugh, I sound like our resident Vampire...

Just getting to OT is a miracle. We have tried to give this game away countless times.
    • Brian
      Our D is pathetic.

4th and 1, :40 seconds left. JMU goes for it from their OWN 34...and rush for 17 yards...

Am I waxing nostalgic for Chris Cosh???
    • Brian
At least the D held the next set of downs, but of course, in the field possession game, JMU downs the punt at the MD 4...can you say OT...
    • Ricksterps
You notice Fridge went for it at midfield on fourth and four. That was totally because he has no confidence in his D.

Come on D, get a four and out just once...

      Defense is awful.
    • Gregg
Thank goodness we got a score to tie things up, but no matter what happens in this one, this could be a very very long year unless this team comes together.
    • Gregg
This was a fine scheduled game. You are supposed to win it. It's not even close. This is an embarrassment no matter what happens. Our offense has been so conservative it's ridiculous and the D is horrible. I don't understand with all those good players at linebacker and in the secondary that we are this bad.

And Turner... oh my god!! A freshman does not make that throw. He threw into triple coverage. This is a complete and utter embarrassment. I am dumbfounded.
    • TerpFever
this really sucks. 1. Whoever scheduled this should be fired. This was a dangerous game from the beginning. 2. They don't seem prepared. 3. JMU wants this more. 4. Of course, if they win, 1,2,3 don't apply and I'm an idiot.
    • Gregg
Defense looks lost. No containment and yes, no pass rush. You gotta get some heat on the QB and make tackles!!
    • turtlepin67
Listening to Johnny Holiday is trying, to say the least. As best as I can tell, we were out rebounded in the first half.
    • Ricksterps
Wow, our D is getting shredded. JMU hasn't beaten a D1 team in almost 20 years. Let's hope our O does well enough to keep that streak going.

Offense looks OK, not being tested that much today but they are executing and moving the ball. It is a good game for Turner to get his confidence back. Defensively we are going to make every mediocre QB we face look like a superstar if we keep giving them so much time to throw! I don't know what is going on but the defense still looks out of sorts, no pass rush and sloppy tackling.

      After 1 Q:

Offense looks okay. Running game is decent, most of the run plays are slow to develop and that hurts. They Oline has gotta get off the line quicker so they can open up bigger holes. Passing game is good though they have thrown WR screens all day long and nothing really downfield yet. I suspect they are setting them up for later.

Defense looks horrible. I know they are learning the system, but it's fundamentals. Guys are overpursuing and missing tackles. Gotta get going and play with some passion.
    • Gregg
Great answer by Smith, but our defense is very suspect. I had no idea. They can't get off blocks and we aren't tackling very well up front. Very concerned.
    • Ricksterps
Smith takes it to the house on the kickoff, very nice.
    • Ricksterps
Oh boy, it's one thing to have Cal roll up and down the field on you but when JMU does it, that's trouble.

      7-6 UMD Missed PA.
    • Ricksterps
7-0, offense looked good. Need to keep it going.
