Terps Hold On Against Virginia, 27-20

The Terps started brightly only to muddle through a weak 2nd and 3rd quarter; but they held on and play well in the 4th quarter for a huge ACC road win.  Maryland is firmly ensconced in sole possession of first place in the ACC standings.

Granted, we are in mid-October but at 4-2, I can actually see my way to an 8-4 record.  It's not as preposterous as it sounds.  The Terps host NC State at home next week for homecoming and if our defense continues to play like this, we'll be in that game until the end.  The Terps travel to BC and the host Georgia Tech in the following two weeks.  Those games are all winnable.  It's hard to imagine that we actually pull that off, but the path is there.

At 7-2, the Terps would be a national story at that point, but crazier things have happened.  Of course a cold dose of reality would loom with Clemson and FSU on the horizon.  The season would end at UNC and again, it's not crazy to think the Terps would have a chance in that game.  So as I said, the path to 8 wins is there.

Now as for the game, Stefon Diggs is awesome.  The defense is stout and Perry Hills is getting better every time out.  The running game is atrocious and that will likely be the thing that keeps us from 8 wins.  But let's not worry about that now.  Let's enjoy a 4-2 record we never thought was possible.

Terps End Regular Season Vs Virginia

The Terps limp into the season finale against Virginia today.  Consecutive road losses have damaged what by most accounts has been a successful first season for Mark Turgeon. A win today would put a nice little bow on the year. A loss and I think we'll all have a bad taste in our mouths that the ACC Tournament is not likely to fix. The Terps jus [...] Read More »

Maryland Heads To UVA For Big Clash

The Terps are getting better.  Despite losing PeShon Howard, the Terps cruised past BC on Thursday in what may have been their most complete game of the season.  The Terps got out in front early and they were able to maintain the lead for the entire game. Virginia, on the other hand, is coming off back to back losses including a double digit loss [...] Read More »

MD - UVA As We Limp Home

This game could have meant something.  Now it doesn't.  Win or lose, MD needs to win the ACC Tournament.  MD seeding is virtually assured, so the only unknowns for this game are: Will Jordan Williams bounce back from his worst performance of the season? Will Terrell Stoglin continue his stellar play? Will we finally get a game where both stars [...] Read More »

Virginia Game Thread

The Terps can (and will) gain at least a share of the ACC Regular Season Crown with a win today.  I hope it is not the only piece of hardware that the Terps will garner this season; but it was an important one nonetheless.Viriginia is in free fall (what else is new?).  They have lost 8 games in a row. You have to wonder if at some point UVA alums h [...] Read More »

Terps Bounce Back, Crush Virginia

What Duke game?  Gary Williams said before the game that it was "gut check" time and his Terps came through.  Maryland blew Virginia out of the building.  It wasn't even close.  From the opening tip, the Terps took the game to the Cavaliers.  What's more, there was a workmanlike self-assurance that the starters displayed.  It was as if they knew th [...] Read More »

Terps-UVA Game Thread

I apologize to folks who have been unable to get on the site for the last few hours.  GoDaddy clearly sucks as a web hosting platform. No matter.  The Terps are taking on a frisky Cavalier squad that could put a major dent in what has largely been a great ACC season thus far.  Maryland will need to forget about the Duke debacle and focus on what got [...] Read More »

2009 Football Terps Are Dead To Me

I was about to write a post mortem on yet another disastrous performance by the gridiron Terps when it dawned on me.  This team is not worthy of the energy that is expended as I type words about them.Blame it on the coach, the scheme, "the confused one", or the players.  I don't care.  The season is over as far as I am concerned.  It's a damn shame [...] Read More »

Halftime - Wow. What a stinker.

I have to say I'm shocked. Sure, the terp fan in me could see this coming, but I did not want to believe that the team would come out and play like a bunch of bums, thinking this was going to be a romp. They have looked listless in offense, very little creativity in the play calling. No screens, no slants, nothing. The defense looks horrendous. [...] Read More »

Maryland Gets Shoveled by PooVA

Questions that remained unanswered after Saturday's loss:How many times can Al Groh call that shovel pass before Maryland stops it? Will the Ralph Friedgen ever throw the ball down the field again (Could some one introduce him to Darius Heyward-Bey)? Seriously, when did the Fridge become so conservative? I used to think it was because he had no [...] Read More »
