Terps Get Big Win Vs Miami 75-70

That was a big win for Mark Turgeon and the Maryland Terrapins.  The PATHETIC home crowd notwithstanding, the Terps came through in the clutch.  It was heartening to see.

Good teams improve as the season goes on and that is what happened this evening.  Instead of the last 5 minutes being the Terrell Stoglin show, the Terps shared the ball and got everyone involved.  Padgett, Faust, and Pankey all made big plays.  Padgett had a key block, Padgett had the old fashioned three point play off a big offensive rebound and Faust followed that up with a massive steal. Stoglin iced it on the line.

That, my friends, is a complete team victory.  Mosley and Len played well too.  At 16-11, the Terps have positioned themselves for a postseason berth.  A road game at Georgia Tech looms this weekend.  That is a very winnable game, but nothing on the road can be taken for granted.  If the Terps come through, they'll sit at 17-11 overall and 7-7 in the ACC. No one gave Turgeon a chance to do that. Hell, the Terps are a miracle win at UNC from meriting bubble consideration.

The bottom line is that the Terps are improving.  No matter what happens the rest of the way, they'll be a tough out in the ACC Tournament.  Mark the tape.

Miami Q&A and Game Thread

The last time the Terps played Miami, the good folks at Category6 were kind enough to participate in a Q&A about the game.  Well, we've reprised the format for the rematch.  We'll start with my questions and Cat6's responses end with the reverse.  Category6 has cross-posted this on their site as well. Here goes:  TS: The last game these two te [...] Read More »

Refs Steal Game Away From Terps

OK.  The headline belies reality somewhat.  Terps squandered chances in the second OT but I don't care.  You've got two teams who played their heart out and the referees were not up to the challenge of the moment. The second OT opened with a clear and blatant offensive goaltending call yet the whistle did not blow.  That call alone changed the [...] Read More »

Miami Q&A and Game Thread

I'm reprising the oft-used blogger Q&A exchange for the Terps upcoming tilt in Miami tomorrow.  The good folks at the excellently-named Category6 have asked me a few questions about our Terps and I've returned the favor by asking them a few of my own about the Hurricanes.  We'll start with my questions to them and end with my answers to their quer [...] Read More »

Terps Fight Through Mistakes To Beat Canes 32-24

They gutted out a huge opening season victory in the face of a driving rainstorm in front of a sellout crowd on national television.  Take that sentence in.  Savor it. Sure, the Terps performance against Miami left much to be desired; but a win is a win.  Much will be made of the following: 1.  Miami was missing 8 of its best players due to su [...] Read More »

Terps Hit New Low

Every time Maryland loses at Miami, it feels like the program is at rock bottom.  Somehow, tonight's loss feels even worse.  Consider: There were 500 fans at the game.  If it is any solace; the ACC has sunk farther as a conference than the Terps have as a program. Gary got out coached again.  The zone got Maryland back in the game as it tempora [...] Read More »

Miami Thread

The Terps fortunes in South Florida have never been good.  I don't know if it is the nice weather, the allure of South Beach, or the general decline of the Terps program the last seven years. Either way, going down to Miami is not a great place for the Terps to be while they are licking their wounds from the most recent ass-kicking at the hands [...] Read More »

Miami Game Thread

Crazy day at work...I'm leaving the office now and won't get to watch the game live.  I'll be on tape delay.  The Terps can't afford a slip up.  We need to keep the momentum going and so we can head into the road trip with momentum.Enjoy the game. [...] Read More »

12 Minutes That Ruined The Season

I don't know how they did it, but they found a way to demoralize the fanbase just a little bit more than we all thought possible. That was a stomach punch game if ever there was one. What can Gary and crew possibly do for an encore? Trot out a fan at halftime and publicly disembowel him a la Braveheart? At this point, I think watching that would ma [...] Read More »

Choke Job

I'm pissed. Mostly because they displayed no effort. But I am also pissed because I wanted to watch basketball this weekend. Now? Ugh.This is a bad loss. Real bad. Miami is terrible. The Terps fell short in just about every "hustle" category. Rebounding, second chance points (related), and turnovers. Don't even get me started about the free throw s [...] Read More »
