The Wheels Fall Off In Miami

What just happened?  I thought I turned on a college basketball game and instead I watched a girl's middle school basketball team take on the Miami Hurricanes.  I deleted all traces of the game from my DVR for fear that it would permeate into my HD TV and somehow destroy it.

Whatever momentum, sense of self, and offensive flow that the Terps developed over the long non-conference stretch is now completely gone.  Maryland looks completely lost.  Every single one of them.  They are turning the ball over and bricking shots.

I know Mark Turgeon is a good coach but it is beyond me how the Terps can look this bad.  I can't imagine a Gary Williams team ever playing a game like this but I'm not about to hang this one completely on the coach.

The players play the games and they are the ones that looked great against Virginia Tech and Florida State for a half.  We need to remember that this squad is filled with mostly kids under the age of 20.  Wild swings between excellence and putridity are inevitable.

Thomas Paine, a founding father once said about the darkest days of the American Revolution, "These are the times that try men's souls." Many people are familiar with that quote but not everyone knows the rest of the quote:

"The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

In summation, the team and fans can't give up.  Turgeon has assembled a team of talented young men.  Turgeon is a good coach. The team will see their way out of it.  If not, the season will be over by the Super Bowl.

Temple Rolls Over Terps

It must have felt like old times for Randy Edsall this afternoon.  He got hammered by a non-BCS school.  When UConn entered Division I (or FBS or whatever 3 letter acronym they go by now); drubbings by D-I also-rans were routine.  Unfortunately for Edsall and Terp fans these kind of performances are totally unacceptable.  The Terps gave up thre [...] Read More »

West Virginia Recap and Meet Charles Mitchell

Yesterday's loss was brutal.  It was brutal because the Terps valiantly fought back from 24 points down only to have our best player throw an AWFUL pick to end the game. Sure, there are plenty of positives to take away from the game (defense played well in the second half, Terps ran the ball well and moved down the field with ease of the last 3 [...] Read More »

Terps Escape Duke 21-16; Suckiness Confirmed

"We're not the number of fingers I'm holding up!"      Image by Getty Images via @daylifeSo, who had the under tonight?  Thought so.  Jeez, am I glad I don't bet on sports anymore.  How the Terps offense only mustered 14 points against that defense (7 points came on a Punt Return) is a mystery.  Elon College scored more points against Duke than the [...] Read More »

Phew! Terps Escape Raliegh With A Win

The Terps had every reason to call it quits at halftime tonight. Down 10 points and playing their 3rd game in 5 days; lesser teams would have folded. Gary was able to rally the troops despite the adversity.  In particular, Greivis Vasquez, Jordan Williams, Adrian Bowie, and Dino Gregory all made key plays to lead the comeback.Dino had the block hea [...] Read More »

Terps Bounce Back, Crush Virginia

What Duke game?  Gary Williams said before the game that it was "gut check" time and his Terps came through.  Maryland blew Virginia out of the building.  It wasn't even close.  From the opening tip, the Terps took the game to the Cavaliers.  What's more, there was a workmanlike self-assurance that the starters displayed.  It was as if they knew th [...] Read More »

Thoughts on Miami, Future

Okay, now that everyone’s had 24 hours to digest the awesomeness that was the Terps’ beatdown of Miami last night. Everyone’s had their chance to brag to their friends that the Terps are on top of the ACC, and have in no way left any doubt that they’re better than BC, NC State and Miami. I’m psyched, I’m pumped, I’m jacked, I’m hyped. It’s a great [...] Read More »

Terps Beat #18 FSU Handily 77-68

The Terps finally have a big win.  Granted, it was at home and against arguably the worst coach in the ACC; but the Terps are undefeated in the ACC.As a Ravens fan; I'm used to big Terp diasppointments when they share a weekend with a Ravens playoff game.  Not today.  I can't recall the last time my two favorite teams both won huge games on the sam [...] Read More »

Terps Beat Fairfield Convincingly, 72-41

Image via Wikipedia I feel like dancing hence the image. Not all 29 point wins are the same.  For example, 129 - 100 feels a lot closer than 72-41.  Maryland doubled up Fairfield in the second half by continuing to put pressure on the ball and throwing able body after able body at the Stags. As I mentioned in my preview, Fairfield is no Charleston [...] Read More »

10 Things We Learned From Cal v. Maryland

Image by Getty Images via Daylife1.  The O-line is going to struggle all year.Chris Turner had no time to pass. Plain and simple.2.  The Defense is disorganized. How many times did you see Cal receivers running ahead of our CBs?  If the safeties are blitzing and we don't have the CBs to play man-to-man; then the defensive strategy needs to change.  [...] Read More »
