Maryland vs Florida State

The Terps 3-14 on the road under Mark Turgeon.  That stinks.

The game in Tallahassee will offer yet another opportunity to pick up a quality road win.  The Terps are in desperate need of one.  I don't have the stats handy, but I'd like to see how many teams from power conferences that started 10-6 actually made the NCAA Tournament.  It's likely a small number.

The Terps still have a chance.  The ACC is wide open with only Pitt and Syracuse appearing to be elite teams.  Yes, that's right.  Duke and UNC look beatable right now.

The problem with Maryland is that they have too many one-dimensional players and that stagnates the offense when good teams are able to force the Terp players out of their comfort zone.

Everyone needs to get better.  Here's just a sampling:

-Dez Wells and Nick Faust will never not face a double team when driving to the basket in the half court.  Learn to pass.
-Jake Layman will never get open looks in the corner in the half court.  He needs to use the pump fake and/or re-establish the threat of driving to the hoop.
-Smotrycz needs to stop dribbling and box out better on defense.
-Roddy Peters is still learning but he dribbles into trouble too much.  He also needs to become a gym rat to get that jumper into suitable shape.
-Cleare and Mitchell need to commit to playing defense and understanding the passing lanes so they can find open shooters.
-Mark Turgeon needs to stop calling iso-plays for Dez Wells at the end of halfs and games.  This is not the NBA.  Run a fucking play so someone can get an open look.

FSU Knew When The Terps Were Running Or Passing

For me, one of the more unfortunate aspects of the Saturday's Tallahassee Beatdown was that it forced sports writers to dredge up the equally awful 70-7 drubbing Penn State meted out to the Terps in 1993. I was at that nightmare of a game. If it is any solace, that game was WORSE.  It was at home and if I remember correctly, the majority of the sco [...] Read More »

Maryland vs FSU

For the second time this month, I find myself in Las Vegas at a sales conference while Maryland is playing Florida State.  Lets hope the outcome is different.   The second half of that game was the beginning of the downward spiral for the Terps. Lowlights included 13 straight missed shots as Maryland frittered away 12 point lead. Now the Terp [...] Read More »

Back to the FSU Exit Thing

FSU currently runs about a $2M budget deficit. Over the past couple of years, according to the USA Today, FSU’s spending has outstripped its revenues by roughly $8M. This from a school that can’t even win the middling ACC. Burt Reynolds or Lee Corso must be their staff accountant. But let’s entertain the financial issues that FSU will face shou [...] Read More »

Start Danny O'Brien

OK.  The CJ Brown Experiment worked for 3 quarters.  It's over.  As we learned today, you can't build an offense around the QB sneak.  I know that 100+ years of football have already proven this fact; but apparently Randy "the Edsel" Edsall needed to learn this lesson the hard way. Seriously.  Think about it.  Did anyone have a doubt that FSU wo [...] Read More »

Terps Trounce FSU; UNC Now Means Something

The Terps played a great game. Granted the last 7 minutes looked ugly; but they were able to extend the lead and FSU is a great defensive team.  It was the Terps best effort of the season. Maryland finally has an RPI 50 win temporarily.  I say that because FSU is teetering on the edge (ranked #50 at tipoff) and will likely drop out tomorrow.  O [...] Read More »

Terps Beat #18 FSU Handily 77-68

The Terps finally have a big win.  Granted, it was at home and against arguably the worst coach in the ACC; but the Terps are undefeated in the ACC.As a Ravens fan; I'm used to big Terp diasppointments when they share a weekend with a Ravens playoff game.  Not today.  I can't recall the last time my two favorite teams both won huge games on the sam [...] Read More »

Maryland vs. FSU Game Thread

Ethan summarized FSU's team quite nicely, so I don't feel the need to break them down for you any further.  All I will say about today's game is that it is likely the most important game on the schedule.  If they win, the rest of the season has a chance to mean something.  If they lose, the season is on life support.  The Terps simply cannot afford [...] Read More »

O-line, Turner Horrid

You know, Ralph Friedgen is always complaining about lack of fan support for the football team. Well, if he expects to have good crowds, I would think he'd like to show up in the biggest game of the year. The offensive line, one that is big and experienced should be ashamed of themselves. They have been just miserable and they should offer apologi [...] Read More »
