I feel like dancing hence the image.

Not all 29 point wins are the same.  For example, 129 - 100 feels a lot closer than 72-41.  Maryland doubled up Fairfield in the second half by continuing to put pressure on the ball and throwing able body after able body at the Stags.

As I mentioned in my preview, Fairfield is no Charleston Southern.  Starting center, Anthony Johnson would fit in nicely in the ACC.  His 16 boards and 4 blocks prove that.  Nevertheless, MD dominated both ends of the floor.  The Terps held Fairfield to 28% from the field (26% from 3pt) while MD connected on 43% of its shots.

The Terps recorded an assist on nearly half of their field goals and were rarely challenged in the second half.  Both Padgett and Williams demonstrated why Gary recruited them and it is clear that they will be able to contribute all year long.  Neither player is Braxton Dupree.

Sean Mosley is clearly the most improved player on the team.  He is doing everything right now.  He seems to have found his mid range jumper and that makes him infinitely more dangerous on the offensive end.  Mosley always defended and rebounded well for a guard his size, so if his offense continues to emerge; Sean will be a complete player.

Hayes looked great tonight too.  He passed the ball well and even played some good defense.  He is definitely playing with more confidence.

I'm not even remotely worried about Vasquez.  His shot will come around.  His is still the straw that stirs the drink.

If I have any worries, it's the Terps 3PT shooting.  I still don't trust Tucker and/or Bowie to knock down the big shot.  It is often difficult for Hayes to find his shot, and Vasquez is erratic from downtown.  It will be our achilles heel all year long.

Despite that, Maryland is better in every other area as compared to last year.  Next week's Maui Classic will be a great barometer from which to measure the team.  If tonight's performance is any indication, Thanksgiving week will be incredibly exciting.

#25 Maryland vs Fairfield Game Thread

Image via WikipediaI realize that I need not put "#25" in front of Maryland in the title; but has been so long, I could not resist.  As someone noted in an earlier thread, Fairfield is 2-0, so tonight's game could be competitive for 25-30 minutes.I say this because the Stags' two wins have come against an A-10 (Rhode Island) and Big East (Fordham) [...] Read More »
