The Terps limp into the season finale against Virginia today. Consecutive road losses have damaged what by most accounts has been a successful first season for Mark Turgeon.
A win today would put a nice little bow on the year. A loss and I think we'll all have a bad taste in our mouths that the ACC Tournament is not likely to fix.
The Terps jus [...] Read More »

This weekend's horrific loss at Georgia Tech torpedoed what was left of any slim hope to get an at-large bid. What remains is for the Terps to start improving on demonstrating their ability to compete consistently with the best teams in the country. UNC offers them this chance.
On paper, the Tarheels are the most talented in team in the country [...] Read More »

The Terps travel to the worst team in the ACC this afternoon with a chance to get to .500 in the conference. It's been a hard road for Turgeon and the Terps. There have been injuries, suspensions, and a non-existent student body. Yet, they've persevered.
The most encouraging sign to me is that the Terps played a complete game replete with Te [...] Read More »

That was a big win for Mark Turgeon and the Maryland Terrapins. The PATHETIC home crowd notwithstanding, the Terps came through in the clutch. It was heartening to see.
Good teams improve as the season goes on and that is what happened this evening. Instead of the last 5 minutes being the Terrell Stoglin show, the Terps shared the ball and [...] Read More »

The last time the Terps played Miami, the good folks at Category6 were kind enough to participate in a Q&A about the game. Well, we've reprised the format for the rematch. We'll start with my questions and Cat6's responses end with the reverse. Category6 has cross-posted this on their site as well.
Here goes:

The Terps are getting better. Despite losing PeShon Howard, the Terps cruised past BC on Thursday in what may have been their most complete game of the season. The Terps got out in front early and they were able to maintain the lead for the entire game.
Virginia, on the other hand, is coming off back to back losses including a double digit loss [...] Read More »

The Terps open up a huge four game stretch this evening when they host BC. In succession, the Terps are home with BC, at UVA, home vs. Miami and at Georgia Tech.
If the Terps go 4-0, they are on the bubble. That would put the Terps at 8-6 in the ACC and 18-10 overall. It starts tonight. BC is terrible and the Terps must beat them. It's a [...] Read More »

The headline says it all. Jeff Ermann is reporting that Howard is out for the year. That's about the worst news the Terps could get heading into tomorrow's Duke game.
This is terrible news for a great kid like Pe'Shon who's already fought back from injury once this year.
I've been saying for weeks that the Terps have serious point guard pro [...] Read More »

The ACC this year is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. No one can figure it out. UNC lost to FSU today by 33 points. 33 points! Who cares if it was in Tallahassee? Sure, the Seminoles were preseason #3 in the conference but no one expected that.
Georgia Tech dominated NC State on the road this week. The Terps need to be wary [...] Read More »

The ACC schedule is wonderful in that it offers near immediate opportunities to bounce back from defeats. Yet, for those teams with issues that have not been fixed; losses can stack up in a hurry.
The Terps hung in but never really gave me the sense that they could be NC State on Sunday. Wake should not present that same problem but they are f [...] Read More »
