Maryland vs Florida State

The Terps 3-14 on the road under Mark Turgeon.  That stinks.

The game in Tallahassee will offer yet another opportunity to pick up a quality road win.  The Terps are in desperate need of one.  I don't have the stats handy, but I'd like to see how many teams from power conferences that started 10-6 actually made the NCAA Tournament.  It's likely a small number.

The Terps still have a chance.  The ACC is wide open with only Pitt and Syracuse appearing to be elite teams.  Yes, that's right.  Duke and UNC look beatable right now.

The problem with Maryland is that they have too many one-dimensional players and that stagnates the offense when good teams are able to force the Terp players out of their comfort zone.

Everyone needs to get better.  Here's just a sampling:

-Dez Wells and Nick Faust will never not face a double team when driving to the basket in the half court.  Learn to pass.
-Jake Layman will never get open looks in the corner in the half court.  He needs to use the pump fake and/or re-establish the threat of driving to the hoop.
-Smotrycz needs to stop dribbling and box out better on defense.
-Roddy Peters is still learning but he dribbles into trouble too much.  He also needs to become a gym rat to get that jumper into suitable shape.
-Cleare and Mitchell need to commit to playing defense and understanding the passing lanes so they can find open shooters.
-Mark Turgeon needs to stop calling iso-plays for Dez Wells at the end of halfs and games.  This is not the NBA.  Run a fucking play so someone can get an open look.

Maryland Takes It OnThe Chin As Pitt Whips Terps

I don't even know where to start. If we aren't shooting lights out, good coaches can figure out how to stop us quite easily.  Turgeon either doesn't know how to adjust or he is doesn't have the players capable of making the adjustment. you could actually see the moment in the game when Pitt figured us out. I could picture Dixon during the under 4 t [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Pitt

Maryland faces one of its toughest tests of the season when they travel to Pitt this evening to play the Panthers.  Can they win?  Of course.  Every team is beatable and if Maryland hits from distance like they did on Saturday, Pitt will have their hands full. If Wake can beat UNC, Maryland can beat Pitt.  I think it is unlikely but it would the [...] Read More »

Maryland vs NC Central

The Terps have a matinee tipoff against a frisky and experienced NC Central squad. This is a game that is likely to be competitive throughout.  Turgeon is still figuring out his lineup as his bigs have underperformed and Seth Allen is back in the fold. Jonathan Graham and Damonte Dodd are on the ascendancy while Mitchell and Cleare are on th [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Tulsa

Seth Allen is slated to make his return today.  If you think that is a panacea for what ails this team, think again.  Allen will help but this team looks completely lost on both ends of the court. I've been converted from a Turgeon fan to a Turgeon critic.  The players are not just failing to get better, they are regressing. Faust and Wells are [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Florida Atlantic

It's pad the schedule time for the basketball team with four cupcakes scheduled between now and the new year.  The Terps should emerge 10-4 with a 17 game ACC slate in front of them.  Wounded but not dead, the Terps must continue to improve.  The road win at BC was nice in that it was a road win and the Terps lost the lead but demonstrated the [...] Read More »

Maryland vs BC

Maryland kicks off the ACC season on the road against a team that looks eerily similar to the Terps: BC.  I say that BC is similar because they have been competitive with good teams (see UConn and Providence) but can't seem to beat any of those teams.  I'm probably being too nice to BC.  Maryland is definitely better than they are.  BC is at ho [...] Read More »

BB&T: Maryland vs George Washington

Do you remember when the BB&T Tournament used to be a high quality affair?  Much like the decline of the Terps fortunes over the years, so too has the BB&T sank to mediocrity.  Now, it just basically an annual game with either George Mason or George Washington.  Georgetown is the only thing keep this from being a great regional tournament but alas [...] Read More »

ACC/B1G Challenge: Maryland vs #5 Ohio State

The ACC got off to an excellent start last night in the annual clash with the B1G.  Surely, Terp fans now feel conflicted given that we will officially be switching sides next year.  Please allow me to dispose you of any inclination you have to root for the B1G this year.  The Terps are in the ACC and we need the ACC to be rated as high as possible [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Morgan State

Don't you just hate games like this?  Maryland is coming off an encouraging yet tiring weekend of games at the Paradise Jam and has a big game coming up next week against top 10 Ohio State. Yet, tonight there is a tune-up game against Morgan State to contend with. This feels like the dreaded "trap game" to me.  Morgan State stinks but the young [...] Read More »
