NCAA Tournament First Round: #5 Maryland vs #12 South Dakota State

3/18/2016 8:11:20 AM It's the Terrapins vs. the Jackrabbits this afternoon in Spokane WA.  Or put another way, it's the turtoises vs the hare.  Yes, the old fable ends well for the turtoise and I certainly hope today is no different.

#5 seeds have been dropping like flies so far and the Terps are certainly vulnerable.  South Dakota State has excellent shooters and Terps have a tendency to let teams hang around.  That can be a killer if your opponent can hit the three ball.

Just like any game in the Terps play in this tournament, their fate will be decided by the fundamentals.  If Maryland plays defense and rebounds for 40 minutes, they will be in every game and likely win a bunch.  If not, then it's an early exit.

I had a chance to meet Steve Bardo yesterday (BTN commentator and former Illini standout) and he thinks that if the Terps win today, they will make a run.  Unfortunately, he thinks there is a good chance we lose today.  He's watched us all year and he knows that Maryland lacks that killer instinct and in the tournament that can be lethal.

Personally, I think we get by today and we'll have a great chance to make it to next week. Go Terps!
