Tonight's tilt between the Terps and visiting Oklahoma State Cowboys is critical for Maryland. The Terps lost themselves in the first half against Pitt on Tuesday and desperately need to the right the ship against a quality opponent before the cupcakes invade Comcast.
On Tuesday, the Pitt zone flummoxed the young Terps and the Panthers went on a dominant run. Maryland fought back in the second half but it wasn't enough. Adding insult to injury, Pitt went out and lost to Duquesne last night so the Strength Of Schedule won't be helped.
That's why tonight's game is so important. It's the last chance for a quality win against a nonconference foe.
The Cowboys are decent. The Terps are 2.5 point favorites so the oddsmakers view these two teams on basically equal terms if you take away the home field advantage.
I think the game will be won on the defensive end as it will be critical for Maryland to defend the 3PT line and rebound.
With a win, Maryland will head into the Big Ten season with only one loss after playing 5 power conference teams. That would be an impressive feat for such a young squad.
