Maryland vs Jackson St

There are a lot of opinions about Saturday’s squeaker against Bucknell. The optimists will harp on the second half comeback, while the pessimists will focus on the listless first half.

Personally, I’m inclined to focus on the former. Yes the Terps started poorly but it was the fourth game in nine days, they were coming off a “big” win against Butler, and Bucknell is no pushover. They only lost by 12 at UNC and they shoot 40% for three.

Maryland got the wake up call and sparked the comeback the right way with defense.

For me, the bigger concern was the last four minutes. The Terps were a mess down the stretch. They turned it over, couldn’t not execute the offense and played a little scared. Bucknell went stone cold and that enabled them to hang on. The last 30 seconds are another story but the game was really over at that point.

Tonight they welcome Jackson State who won’t put up the same kind of fight. It’s the final tune up before they head to Florida for that holiday mini tournament. Their likely opponent in the championship game is the Jamie Dixon led TCU Horned Frogs. Yes, the rare Frogs vs Turtles tilt. TCU has a top 30 Pomeroy Rating so that is shaping up to be a decent game assuming we get past St. Bonny that is.
