Maryland vs #13 Iowa State

11/25/2014 12:38:43 PM If Terp fans wanted any indication of how beaten down we've been over the last few years, one need only look to the last five minutes of last night's game against Arizona State.  I think we all felt that after giving up the lead, the Terps would just collapse as they always do and we'd lose another close game.  It didn't happen.  The combination of Dez Wells and Melo Trimble willed the Terps to victory against a good Sun Devils squad.

Sure, the Terps lacked in perimeter defense but Arizona State still had to knock down the 3PTers, which they did at a better than 50% clip.  That's an impressive display.  Somehow, Maryland was able to overcome it.  Trimble in particular was sublime.  He did everything.  He scored from beyond the arc, at the stripe, and in the paint.  He's amazing.

The Terps passed the ball well even though the assist totals did not reflect.  I think part of the issue is the lack of a reliable interior scorer coupled with the fact that no one other than Trimble was hitting 3's.

Layman was active going to the basket and he just seems so much stronger this year.  You gotta love that.  Ceko is maturing before our eyes. He's gotten better with every game and I'm excited to see him develop into a force as the season progresses. Damonte Dodd registered 4 blocks.

Now comes the real test.  Iowa State is a top 15 team that made it to the Elite Eight last year.  The Mayor, Fred Hoiberg is a great coach and his team will be ready to play.  Georges Niang is All-America candidate who averages nearly 23 points per game.

If the Terps win, it will be dreamland.  It's possible that we'd be ranked and 7-0 heading into a huge game at home against UVA.  Now that would be something.
