The Terps kick off the B1G season tomorrow against lowly Purdue. The Terps will be favored and they have an excellent shot at moving to 4-0. That would an exceptional start to the DJ Durkin era. Before we break out the party hats, it's important to note that Maryland was expected to win their first three given the quality of the opponent and Purdue is no different. However, I have no doubt that The Edsel would have found a way to lose at least one of those games.
The Terps head into tomorrow's contest with a bit of a QB controversy. Perry Hills is the starter but he was, shall we say, underwhelming against Central Florida two weeks ago. Freshman Ty Pigrome on the other hand stepped in when Hills got injured and promptly scampered 25 yards into the end zone to seal the victory. He's clearly the QB of the future (until Kasim Hill gets here at least) and Hills is just limited in terms of being able to get the ball into the hands of our receivers. I don't know if Pigrome will be better in that department but if Hills struggles tomorrow, the calls will grow louder for Durkin to give Pigrome a shot.
Penn St looms next week and a possible. 5-0 start. That would be an incredible beginning to Durkin's career and it will be time to get excited in College Park.
