#4 Maryland vs #5 West Virginia

The Maryland Terrapins haven't been to the Sweet 16 since 2003. Exalted names like Drew Nicholas and Steve Blake were involved.  Today, the Terps can end the drought and reestablish the program on the national stage.

In the way, stands West Virginia. The Mountaineers have slogged through the Big 12 conference which has been tabbed the best conference in the country all season.  Before panic sets in, let's remember that Maryland is 2-0 against the conference and the Big 12 has had a rough Tournament thus far.  There is nothing for Maryland to fear.

Melo and Dez will be the two best players on the court tonight but that won't be enough.  Maryland will need a complete effort from the whole squad.  That means that Jake Layman needs to find his way out his funk and become the inside / outside threat that we need.

West Virginia is an elite offensive rebounding squad and that is a known weakness for Maryland.  The Terps will need to rebound like their life depends on it because it does.  West Virginia is a bad free throw shooting team.  In the Tournament, that often makes the difference.  It did against Valpo.

Editor's Note (Plug):

Before and after care is available. Sign up now to receive early-bird discounts!   ENROLLMENT IS LIMITED!   Please call 301-575-9400 or visitwww.sibasketballcamps.com for more information and to register your son/daughter!

There is nothing left to do but to watch it unfold.  Maryland fans deserve a win tonight but the boys have to earn it.  It won't be handed to them.

Terps Advance To Round Of 32

Man, that Valpo game was incredibly frustrating to watch.  I'm not going to lie.  I avoided public places because I knew this game would be close and I didn't want to have a conniption fit in public.  As it was, I destroyed a water bottle and may or may not have beaten a pillow on my couch to a bloody pulp. Yes. I'm a grown man. It's [...] Read More »

#4 Maryland vs #13 Valparaiso

Happy NCAA Tournament, everyone! It's good to be back after a 4 year hiatus.  By now, we've all had the opportunity to get over the fact that the Selection Committee completely screwed Maryland with our seeding and draw.  It's water under the bridge. I've come to peace with it.  I actually think a potential matchup against Kent [...] Read More »

NCAA Screw Job

I don't even know where to start.  The Terps got served one of the most unfair seeding in recent history.  A team with a 2-0 record against the Big 12, including a win against the conference champion, got seeded behind three Big 12 teams.  If only that were the only insult.  The Terps got shipped in Kentucky's side of the dr [...] Read More »

Big Ten Semifinals

It was a great night at the United Center.  The Terps didn't trail after the score was 13-10 Indiana early in the first half. In what has become this team's signature, the Terps kept Indiana at arms length but were never able to pull away until the final minute.  Ken Pomeroy and the other basketball quants call this Terps team the luc [...] Read More »

Big Ten Quarterfinals Thread

For the first time since I was a junior in college, I will get to see the Maryland Terrapins play in their conference tournament.  The Terps check in as a #2 seed but I expect the matchup to be much more difficult than the standard 2/7 fare. Unfortunately, Maryland does not matchup well with Indiana.  IU's guards are quicker than Maryl [...] Read More »

#10 Maryland vs Nebraska

Both #9 Kansas and #8 Wichita State lost yesterday.  That means Maryland could be a top 8 team heading into the Big Ten Tournament if they can take care of business in Lincoln tonight. Maryland has won 6 in a row.  Nebraska has lost 7 in a row.  On paper, the Terps should roll.  We know that won't happen.  Maryland has t [...] Read More »

#10 Maryland vs Rutgers

We are in the home stretch folks.  The Terps play two winnable road games before heading to Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament.  Rutgers played the Terps close in College Park earlier in the year but they are a vastly inferior team.  Maryland should win easily and I expect a decent away crowd with all of the NY/NJ alumni heading to N [...] Read More »

#14 Maryland vs Michigan

Tuesday's game will forever be known as the Dez Wells Game.  What a performance he turned in. He willed the Terps to victory.  The crowd was electric.  Apparently, all that's needed to get the students to turn out for a game is a coordinated flash mob but I digress. The Terps are now poised to earn a protected seen in the NCAAs. & [...] Read More »

#14 Maryland vs #5 Wisconsin

The big game is here.  The Terps are desperate to prove that they can beat a good team following some disheartening blowout road losses and a few close wins against conference bottom feeders. There are many doubters out there (Seth Davis being the most prominent). From where I sit, I have seen the Terps improve their shooting dramatically o [...] Read More »
