ACC / Big Ten Challenge: Maryland vs Pitt

Maryland takes on Pitt in the ACC/B1G Challenge tonight at the Comcast Center. The Terps return home from an incredibly successful (and stressful) holiday weekend trip to Brooklyn.

An OT win over Richmond and a one-point victory vs Kansas State punctuated what could be a season defining moment for the Terps.

Thanks in large part to Melo Trimble, the Terps have improbably Coke through in three clutch situations already this season.  On Saturday, Trimble was aided by a breakout performance from Mikael Cekovsky. His 16 points provided the interior scoring Maryland needed to open things up for Trimble to drive to the hoop. It's hard not to fall for a team that never quits.

Tonight Pitt comes in and they are huge. Their backcourt averages 6'6" and they'll be going against Melo and Cowan (6'3" and 6'0" respectively). In the frontcourt, they have wide bodies.

Turgeon will have his hands full but the Terps should be able to use their quickness to keep Pitt off balance. A win and the Terps are one step closer to an undefeated non-conference schedule. A feat the looked improbable a month ago.

Gameday: Maryland vs Rutgers and Maryland vs Kansas State

Double thread today as the football team attempts to become bowl eligible and the basketball team plays in the finals of the Barclays Center Classic. The basketball team escaped with a win last night thanks to a great second half in which the Terps overcame an 12-point deficit. Melo Trimble led the way but all three freshman contributed n [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Richmond

Maryland returns to the Barclay Center this evening to take on a dangerous Richmond team. The A-10 is a difficult conference and one that I would argue is above mid major status.  Richmond is going to be a test. Their best scorer is Shawn'Dre Jones and he is hitting over 50% of his threes right now and averaging nearly 20ppg. On the [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Stonybrook

The Terps take on Stonybrook tonight in what should be a tune up for next weekend's tougher slate. Unfortunately, it's hard to imagine any team being a tune up for the Terps right now. They simply can't play consistently for long enough stretches to put any team away. The 3PT shooting has been pedestrian and they were outmuscled by Towson over t [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Towson

The Terps take on Towson today without Ceko or Wiley. So far this season, we've seen a gutty team in a shooting slump. The Terps showed incredible heart coming back against Georgetown yet they haven't been able to muster a game where they shoot better than 30% from three. It's early yet and certainly not time to panic but it'd be nice to see a good [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Nebraska

The Terps limp into Lincoln tomorrow after successive blowouts at the hands of Michigan and Ohio State.  While both teams are national title contenders, the Terrapins were cowed in a most embarrassing way. The Terps could not stop either team nor could they score (save for 6 points). It was a showcase in how far the Terps have to go in or [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Georgetown

Friday's game was a disappointing start but it wasn't disastrous.  The Terps won and showed some flashes.   The turnovers continue to be a nightmare but one has to think it will get better.  The rebounding was a big bright spot as the Terps doubled up American on the boards. The shooting from the outside was dreadful.  Nickens was just a mess.  [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Ohio State

Maryland squeaked by American last night. They never led by more than 7 points and trailed late in the second half. Many will point to working in 3 new freshman, a grad transfer, and a shooting guard who hadn't played in 20 months while recuperating from a knee injury, but I will counter with: it was American University (12-19 last season) [...] Read More »

#25 Maryland vs American

The 2016-17 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team kicks off its season tonight against American University. As is the case with these early season cupcakes, the game is less about the opponent and more about how the Terps are coming together. If the exhibition against Catawba is an indicator, the Terps freshman class is a solid one. Cowan, H [...] Read More »
