DJ Durkin To Return As Head Coach

DJ is returning to the program. I’m speechless and frankly don’t understand the decision. The Report’s findings indicated that there was “ongoing dysfunction” in the athletic department and the training staff’s mistakes contributed to Jordan McNair’s death. I can’t fathom how those findings square with Damon Evans and DJ Durkin keeping their jobs.

It’s not hard to see that there was concern that firing Durkin and Evans would open the school up to further lawsuits by McNair’s family for wrongful death, and Durkin himself for wrongful termination. To that I say, who the fuck cares? What happened to integrity and accountability? McNair’s family deserves everything it gets from the school. As for Durkin’s potential claim, the school should do the right thing and worry about those consequences later. Money be damned.

I’d love to write that I’m done with Maryland Football as a result of this decision. Part of me wants to cut the cord and maybe I will be able to curtail my interest. I’m not sure that it’s possible. I love that damn place and I love their sports teams. They are a part of me. I’m so deeply disgusted and disappointed with the Board of Regents and their shallow and immoral calculations that this won’t ever be forgotten.

Our students, faculty, and alumni deserve a University worth admiration and instead we have one that I look down on with disgust.

Maybe there will be details that come out which fully exonerate everyone. I hope that happens. Let’s just say I have my doubts.

Gameday: Maryland vs Illinois

The Terps are still playing games. This despite the fact that they have no passing game whatsoever. A win tomorrow and Maryland will be one game away from bowl eligibility. That’s hard to fathom given how one-dimensional they but it is a fact nonetheless. Illinois is truly dreadful and can’t really beat anyone outside of Rutgers in the Big Ten. [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Iowa

He we are. This is a game that can define Maryland’s season. Iowa is a good football and Maryland is flying a long way to play them but the Hawkeyes are not an elite team. Over the last few years, that hasn’t mattered much. As we now know, any good team that it is not coached by Tom Herman generally just rolls through the Terps. Maybe today wi [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Rutgers

the eyes of the college football world will be on College Park this afternoon for this epic tilt.  If only. maryland limps into homecoming with the sixth worst passing attack in FBS. Today is a chance to right the ship and position ourselves for a run at terrible bowl game. Can you feel the excitement? [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Michigan

Well it’s that time of year. Maryland has racked up some early season wins and one of the Big Ten elite teams shows up on the schedule. It’s hard to imagine Maryland going to Ann Arbor and beating Michigan. Granted, that’s happened before (I was there), but this Michigan team is much better than that one. In reality, it would be great to see M [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Minnesota

How was that for crashing down to earth moment? Getting blown out at home to Temple hammered home the point that this team is far away from being ready to compete in the Big Ten. Temple is not a good team. The loss is pathetic and inexcusable. Now Minnesota comes to town and maybe Maryland beats them. But does it really matter? Does anyone bel [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Temple

Maryland looks to keep its perfect season intact today when Temple comes to town. This is the last tune up before the conference season begins. This game should not be close and so far, the Terps have shown that they can blow teams out. As long as the Terps keep the penalties to a minimum and avoid injuries (obviously), they’ll be fine. T [...] Read More »

Maryland vs Bowling Green

What a win last weekend! With all of the dark clouds surrounding the program, the team took the field and played their best. They even handled the weather delay and took down a ranked team. It’s hard not to be proud of these kids and how they represented the University. It also set the Terps up nicely to have a great start to the season. [...] Read More »

Gameday: Maryland vs Texas

What a summer.  The Maryland Athletic Program has their worst summer since 1986. The tragedy of Jordan McNair’s death has been compounded by the behavior of senior administration officials. It’s a black mark that will last for some time. This goes far beyond sports but the purpose of this site is to talk about the games on the field so th [...] Read More »

Lacrosse Championship Weekend

The Terps are going for two national titles this weekend. In the process, then men get to take down Duke which is always nice. Back to back titles is unthinkable compared to the drought that preceded it, so there is a lot at stake. Let’s go get em! [...] Read More »
