2012 Basketball Recruting Targets
-
Sterling Gibbs: 6'3" 18-lbs Scouting Grade: 91
Gibbs has grown two inches in between his junior and senior season. He is the brother of Pitt's Ashton Gibbs and if he is anything like his brother (he is now taller than Ashton), then the Terps have their floor leader for the next 4 years.
-
Nick Faust: 6'6" 175lbs Scouting Grade: 95
Nick has the size and stroke to instantly change the Terps approach. His size and shooting range will instantly upgrade the Terps perimeter and open things up for Jordan Williams.
-
Desmond Hubert: 6'9" 207lbs Scouting Grade: 90
Hubert could be the missing link in the Terps interior. With Jordan Williams scoring and grabbing boards, the Terps need an intimidating shot blocker who can finish in transition. Hubert should fill those roles nicely.
-
Greg Whittington: 6'9" 195lbs Scouting Grade: NR
This kid is clearly a project but he has grown 2 inches in the last year. The video shows that he has ball handling skills, an outside shot, and post moves. The competition he plays against is weak; but the kid looks like a matchup nightmare to me.
-
Martin Bruenig: 6'9" Scouting Grade: NR
The only thing I can tell you about this kid is what I see in the video. He's big and can shoot threes. That's something the Terps haven't had since James Gist.
-
Wally Judge: 6'9" 248lbs
Wally is a former MCD All-American who just quit the K-State program. He is Maryland native, so there is speculation that he wants to come to College Park. His stats at K-State have been underwhelming; but the Terps should be all over him anyway. He'd have to sit out a year, but judging by his raw talent; the Terps must be salivating. His head is above the rim in this highlight!

The Outlook for Football Season: Part Two
After the relentless optimism of Part One, the indefinitely long series returns with an analysis of the incoming recruits. I'll only break down the recruits that have chances of playing this year. Guys like Tyrek Cheeseboro, Matt Robinson or Ian Evans aren't going to see any love because their shirts are so red they're being attacked by bulls. Luck [...]

Welcome Bino Ranson
The search for Chuck D's replacement is reportedly over. Several sources are reporting that the Xavier Assistant has resigned and is on his way to College Park to join Gary's staff.Orlando "Bino" Ranson was born in Baltimore in 1974 just like yours truly. He's known as an excellent recruiter and I'm sure his Baltimore roots will only improve that [...]

Unconfirmed Reports that Jordan Allen is a Terp
There are no news agencies reporting the commitment, but rumors abound that the Gary Williams just picked up a 6'6" PF from Bay Shore, NY named Jordan Allen. The best information I could find comes from this NBE article. The article claims Jordan has offers from Wake, Kentucky, GT among others. ESPN rates the kid as a 40 on a scale of 100. It see [...]

Football Recruiting Update
I know all the focus is on basketball right now (and rightfully so), but since my work at Turtle Sports Report has forced me to look to the gridiron when I only want to see hardwood and tank tops (Excuse the double entendre), I can’t help but notice that Ralph Friedgen and his staff has put together a pretty good recruiting class. This class is pret [...]

Terps Add Pe'Shon Howard
Pe'Shon is listed as a three-star combo guard. He's 6'2" and can shoot the three ball (something desperately needed in College Park). My question is did the Terps give away Terrence Ross' scholarship or are we hoping that Ross is still coming? If any readers are in the know regarding how the coaching staff views their chances with Ross, I'd lo [...]

Ashton Pankey to Visit Maryland
Ashton Pankey ESPN PF #39 will visit MD on 10/16. Zagsblog says MD has offered him a scholarship. Does this mean the coaching staff thinks that the Terps may not come in first in the race to land Tobias Harris?I don't know what to make of this. I would guess that Pankey will not sign if Harris picks the Terps because he won't start over Harris. [...]

Landing Tobias Harris Could Catapult Terps Recruiting Class to #2 Nationally
Jerry Meyer, the head national basketball recruiting analyst thinks that the Terps 2010 class could rise even further than #10. Here's the quote:Maryland has established a solid foundation to its 2010 recruiting class with commitments from shooting guard Terrence Ross (No. 43 overall), forward Mychal Parker (No. 53) and guard Terrell Stoglin (No. [...]

Mychal Parker Commits to Terps for 2010
This news is so big I had to create a new post. The Terps just landed their replacement for Landon Milbourne. Mychal Parker is a consensus Top 50 recruit and is a huge "get" for the program.Add that to the other 2010 commits, Terrence Ross and Terrell Stoglin and the Terps are building one of their best recruiting classes in years.I literally jus [...]

Gary Williams - Quote of the Year
Dan Steinberg at the WaPo has summarized an extensive interview that Gary Williams gave on ESPN's 980 AM yesterday afternoon. Here's what Gary had to say about recruiting:"The penalty that the Alabama football team got, for instance; they have to forfeit games, ok? And they get probation for three years or whatever it is. That has nothing to do wi [...]
