#25 Maryland vs American

11/11/2016 4:10:18 PM The 2016-17 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team kicks off its season tonight against American University. As is the case with these early season cupcakes, the game is less about the opponent and more about how the Terps are coming together.

If the exhibition against Catawba is an indicator, the Terps freshman class is a solid one. Cowan, Huerter, and Jackson look like contributors.  Dion Wiley is back and he is going to be a valuable contributor.

The biggest question mark for the Terps will be the frontline.  Damonte Dodd has struggled with consistency throughout his career and it remains to be seen if he can ever be relied on for anything more than a shot blocker.  He needs to be a rebounding force this season for the Terps.  Ivan Bender was purported to be the most improved player this season and he just broke his wrist so we won't find out if he can contribute for awhile.  Michael Cekovsky is also battling injuries so it's likely the Terps will struggle upfront in the early going.  The pressure will be on the likes of LG Gill to provide the muscle and interior scoring the Terps will need to have a balanced attack.
